Overview

What this certification is and how the exam works.

The CGEIT (Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT) is ISACA's credential for professionals who direct and oversee enterprise IT rather than manage it day to day. It is the most board-facing of ISACA's certifications: questions are framed from the perspective of a governing body deciding how IT decision rights are allocated, how investments are prioritized, and how value is measured. The exam covers four domains: Governance of Enterprise IT (40%); IT Resources (15%); Benefits Realization (26%); and Risk Optimization (19%). The exam is 150 items in 4 hours, scored on a 200–800 scale with 450 required to pass. Candidates need five years of experience managing, serving in an advisory role for, or otherwise supporting the governance of enterprise IT, at least one year of which must be in Domain 1. No experience waivers are available.

Why should I take the exam?

What this credential does for your career.

  • 1The only major credential focused specifically on the governance rather than the management of enterprise IT

  • 3Consistently among the highest-paying IT certifications, reflecting its small and senior holder population
  • 4Built on COBIT, the framework most widely used to structure enterprise IT governance in regulated industries
