Overview
What this certification is and how the exam works.
The 300-435 ENAUTO exam — Automating Cisco Enterprise Solutions — is a CCNP Enterprise concentration exam that, combined with the 350-401 ENCOR core exam, earns the CCNP Enterprise certification; it also counts toward the CCNP Automation track. It is the programmability exam in the enterprise portfolio, and it expects working familiarity with Python and REST rather than command-line configuration alone. The v2.0 blueprint, effective 2025, restructured the exam away from the original platform-by-platform layout into five capability domains: network automation foundation (10%) — IETF, OpenConfig and native YANG models, NETCONF and RESTCONF, JSON and XML payloads, YANG Suite and pyang, and RFC 8340 tree notation; device-level network automation (25%) — Python with Netmiko, ncclient and requests, Ansible configuration management, Day 0 provisioning, model-driven troubleshooting, and on-box automation with EEM, guest shell and Python; controller-based network automation (30%) — Day 0 provisioning, controller SDKs and REST APIs across Catalyst Center, SD-WAN vManage, Meraki and ISE, advanced Jinja2 templating, Ansible, security policy and compliance automation, and REST API troubleshooting; operations (20%) — Cisco platform test APIs and pyATS, topology simulation, software version management, health monitoring, model-driven telemetry on IOS XE, and webhooks; and AI in automation (15%) — AI capabilities in controller platforms, AI-assisted code development, security risks in AI-based solutions, and building MCP servers that expose network information to AI agents. The exam runs 90 minutes.
Why should I take the exam?
What this credential does for your career.
- 1Completes CCNP Enterprise when paired with the 350-401 ENCOR core exam, and also counts toward CCNP Automation
- 2The only exam in the enterprise track that tests real Python, REST, and data-modeling skill rather than CLI recall
- 3The v2.0 blueprint added an AI in Automation domain, making it one of the first Cisco exams to formally test AI-assisted engineering
- 4Automation skills are the clearest differentiator between a network engineer and a network automation engineer in hiring
- 5The tooling covered — Git, CI/CD, Ansible, pyATS, REST SDKs — transfers directly to platform and DevOps roles
Skills measured
What you need to know to pass this exam.
- ✓Interpret IETF, OpenConfig, and native YANG models and read RFC 8340 tree notation
- ✓Construct and validate JSON and XML payloads for NETCONF and RESTCONF operations
- ✓Use YANG Suite and pyang to explore models and generate valid requests
- ✓Choose between NETCONF, RESTCONF, and gNMI based on transaction and encoding requirements
- ✓Automate device configuration with Python using Netmiko, ncclient, and the requests library
- ✓Write Ansible playbooks for network configuration management using appropriate modules
- ✓Implement Day 0 provisioning with ZTP and Cisco Network Plug and Play
- ✓Troubleshoot device automation using RESTCONF and NETCONF responses and YANG validation errors
- ✓Build on-box automation with Embedded Event Manager, guest shell, and on-device Python
- ✓Automate Catalyst Center through its REST API and the dnacentersdk Python library
- ✓Automate Cisco SD-WAN through the vManage REST API for policy and device operations
- ✓Automate Cisco Meraki through its dashboard API, including organization and network scoping
- ✓Automate security policy and compliance operations including ISE integrations
- ✓Build advanced configuration templates with Jinja2 loops, conditionals, filters, and output modifiers
- ✓Troubleshoot REST API interactions using status codes, pagination, rate limits, and authentication flows
- ✓Use pyATS and Genie to write network test cases and parse device output structurally
- ✓Simulate topologies for pre-change validation and automated testing
- ✓Manage software version compliance and upgrades programmatically
- ✓Configure model-driven telemetry on IOS XE via CLI, NETCONF, and RESTCONF with dial-in and dial-out subscriptions
- ✓Implement webhook-based event monitoring and integrate it into operational workflows
- ✓Evaluate AI capabilities in Cisco controller platforms and apply AI-assisted code development safely
- ✓Identify security risks specific to AI-based automation and build MCP servers exposing network data to AI agents
