Overview
What this certification is and how the exam works.
The SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner) proves the technical skills and hands-on knowledge to implement, monitor, and administer IT infrastructure in line with security policies and procedures. Where the CISSP is managerial in emphasis, the SSCP is operational — it is the credential for the people who configure the controls. It covers seven domains: Security Concepts and Practices; Access Controls; Risk Identification, Monitoring and Analysis; Incident Response and Recovery; Cryptography; Network and Communications Security; and Systems and Application Security. The exam is 125 multiple-choice items in 3 hours, passing at 700/1000, and requires one year of cumulative paid work experience in at least one domain.
Why should I take the exam?
What this credential does for your career.
- 1The practitioner counterpart to the CISSP — proves you can actually implement and operate security controls
- 2One year of experience qualifies you, making it reachable far earlier in a career than the CISSP
- 3Strong fit for SOC analysts, systems and network administrators, and security engineers
- 4Approved for US DoD 8140/8570 roles and a natural stepping stone from CC toward the CISSP
